Green Line slams EPA over pollution

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait's environmental Green Line Group recently organized a joint press conference with the representative of Voluntary Environmental Commission for Um Al-Haiman Engineer Ahmad Al-Sharee in Salmiya to discuss problems the inhabitants of Um Al-Haiman are facing.

Chairperson of the group Khaled Al-Hajri said the declaration by Director General of Environment Public Authority (EPA) to fight the pollution in Um Al-Haiman using windmills is hard to believe, affirming EPA is only playing with the health of children in Kuwait by neglecting environmental issue.
Suspects

He also listed the names of some personalities, including the PM Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, the chairperson of Audit Court, the Minister of Health and Director General of Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, as the main suspects in the falsification of documents related to violation of children's rights, as indicated by EPA representative Engineer Mohammad Al-Enezi on a satellite channel.

He added the government officials have declined to come out to deny the allegation, and "this actually proves there's truth in the information". He called for the case to be referred to the Public Prosecution.

He noted more than 50,000 people living in the area are affected by air pollution and that the issue must not be neglected because it's really affecting their health, particularly the women and children.

He reiterated Um Al-Haiman is suffering an environmental disaster, according to international standards, and the government is reluctant to take important decisions to resolve the issue once and for all.
