UAE: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has announced an annual cut of more than AED 48 million in district cooling consumption bills as of 1 December 2020

This step is in line with the directives of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, to reduce the additional fuel surcharge for electricity and water, according to a recent press release.

More than 140,000 customers of Empower, which dominates 76% of Dubai's district cooling industry, will benefit from the reduction.

The CEO of Empower and Chairman of the District Cooling Operators Association, Ahmad bin Shafar, said that the decision is expected to increase the demand for district cooling in the existing and upcoming projects, as it ensures sustainability for contributing to huge energy savings for cooling.

It is noteworthy to mention that in November, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, has issued a decree to cut fuel surcharge for electricity by 23% to 5 fils/kWh and for water by 33% to 0.4 fils for Imperial Gallon.
