Contracting firms are allowed to set up labour accommodations at their work sites, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced.

The move aims to provide sufficient space for safe distance for workers in the accommodations and to minimise the risks of mixing among workers. This will also ensure the continuity of construction work when the transportation of workers has been banned between emirates to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The move came following coordination between the ministry, the municipalities and the competent local bodies.

The ministry affirmed that the firms that want to build their labour accommodations at worksites should stick to the regulations and descriptions set by the local bodies. They should also take the necessary preventive measures for social distancing among workers.

The MoHRE also clarified that inspection will be conducted in the labour accommodations that are built on the construction sites to ensure that hygiene and occupational safety conditions are met and the necessary preventive measures are taken.
