CAIRO (Zawya Dow Jones)--Telecom Egypt, Egypt's only fixed-line service provider, said Tuesday its subsidiary, TE Data, has launched the first internet protocol-based television under the name TE-VU.

TE-VU will provide content to subscribers over the TE Data's IP MPLS network, the company said in a statement.

"The internet and data business is one of the fastest growing segments in Telecom Egypt Group, and the launch of the new IP-TV-based service by our internet subsidiary TE Data is part of the group's strategy to provide tailored full service solutions to our customers," Akil Beshir, chairman of Telecom Egypt, said.

The new service demonstrates the capabilities of TE Data's network to provide the next generation bandwidth intensive services, the statement said.

Telecom Egypt is set to release its third quarter results Thursday.
