Tuesday, 20 November 2007: DHAHRAN - Saudi Aramco will pay financial compensation to the families of only five of the 28 victims who died in the Hawiyah gas pipeline blast on Monday, by virtue of their being Aramco employees, sources at the company said. The responsibility for indemnifying the families of the remaining victims must be shouldered by the contractors who had employed them, the sources said.

Among the dead are Pakistanis, Indians, Bangladeshi and Nepali workers.  Most of the dead were employed by Suedrohbau Saudi Arabia

Several workers were also injured in the accident that occurred when a gas leak occured during welding work on a 40-inch diameter pipe, resulting in a huge explosion tha Aramco to Compensate Kin of only 5 of 28 Dead Tuesday, 20 November 2007

One of the injured workers has nearly recovered and others are to be discharged later Monday or Tuesday, the sources said. Ambulances had rushed all the casualties to King Fahd Hospital in Hofuf shortly after the accident.
