Work on the Saada West development project in Muharraq is on track.

Sixty-four per cent of the seaside resort is complete.

Deputy Premier and Mumtalakat chairman Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday visited the beachfront development and inspected the project, one of the strategic schemes in Muharraq.

The visit was in line with directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to follow up on the progress of development and service projects.

The first phase features the construction of seven buildings, which are 81pc complete, 32 multi-purpose retail units, a multi-storey car park, outside parking, a public park, other public spaces and a jetty.

The Deputy Premier was also informed about the initial designs of the project’s second phase, covering a total area of 12,000 sqm, on which work is expected to begin after the completion of the first phase.

The second phase includes car parks, retail units, restaurants and cafés, as well as a pedestrian bridge to link the old market in Muharraq to the project’s waterfront.

The design of the second phase took into account Muharraq’s traditional old market’s deep-rooted cultural identity.

Shaikh Khalid expressed hope that the Saada project would become an important tourist destination.
