ABU DHABI - The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) said it carried out over 14,000 metrological verifications of measurement devices, and more than 1,000 pre-packaged products were verified in Abu Dhabi during 2022.

Releasing the annual report on the performance of the Council's Market and Consumer Services Sector, QCC said metrological verifications conducted included high-accuracy commercial scales used in precious metals and Arabian perfume outlets and on scales in retail sales units.

The metrological verification operations in Abu Dhabi were conducted in petroleum metres across service stations, floor scales for trucks, freight scales, and tools measuring length in meters and tire pressure, both mobile and fixed.

The verification tests of pre-packaged products were conducted in factories and at outlets of major suppliers of solid and liquid products across food and building materials. Medical measurement tools were also checked on blood pressure devices, medical needles, and thermometers at pharmacies and health outlets.

The report said that more than 70,000 registered products were verified through field inspections, which included 7,300 online products.

The field inspections were conducted to ensure the conformity of restricted products offered through commercial outlets and online sales platforms to relevant technical regulations and standard specifications. These include electrical products, children's toys, vehicle tires, household chemical cleaners, tobacco products, cigarettes and food contact products.

In 2022, the Council's services ensured confidence across the commercial and industrial sectors, which enhanced customer satisfaction to 99% as a unified government indicator in Abu Dhabi.

The Council also expanded international accreditation in line with the requirements of ISO/IEC.17020, for its legal standards services in line with international standards.

Khalaf Khalifa Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of QCC's Markets and Consumer Services Sector, affirmed the Council's keenness to enhance its role in ensuring the safety of markets and consumers by ensuring product safety and market fairness in Abu Dhabi through its services. The Council also monitors the markets after the post-COVID-19 economic and commercial recovery.

He said the Council continuously develop and sustains its services by implementing the best international methodologies and practices and through optimal use of resources, enhancing efficiency and empowering its employees through training.

Al Mazrouei added that the Council last year also launched new services to serve larger segments of commercial and industrial establishments, such as metrological verification services for pre-packaged products according to the units of measurement of area, number and length. A market monitoring service was also launched for lighting products added to the restricted product list.

He stated that as part of exchanging experiences with regional and international bodies, three standard comparisons were made in 2022 during visits to Singapore, the Gulf Standardisation Organisation and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation in Saudi Arabia.
