DOHA - The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed construction of nine schools in Qatar, with a total cost of QR172m. These schools are ready to function from this academic year commencing from tomorrow, said a press note issued by Ashghal, yesterday.

The newly constructed schools include Model School at Al Wakrah Town, Model School at West Bay, two preparatory schools for girls at Abu Hamur, Preparatory school for boys at Mushierab, Preparatory school for girls at West Al Duhail and Elementary school for girls at Garrafa.

In addition to these, two other schools have been constructed and operating since last academic year. One of them, situated al Al Khor Town has been temporarily utilised by Qatar Leadership Academy where as the other one was used by the Asian Games Committee.

All the new school buildings are two-storeyed with a plinth area of 8600 sqmt. The building will have 25 classrooms, laboratories, computer rooms, administrative offices, auditorium and cafeteria in addition to indoor sports hall and internal assembly line with centralised air condition facilities.

The Ashghal has also embarked on the construction of 14 other schools, both for boys and girls. They will be ready from the beginning of next academic year. Ashghal has issued general tender among local and international companies in July last for construction of 14 schools. This is in addition to another 21 new schools under designing phase.

Besides construction of schools, Ashghal has also taken up projects for kindergartens. Presently, there are contracts ready to be issued for ten kindergartens to be constructed in different parts of the country. This is in addition to another 21 Kindergartens under designing phase.
