Some $5 billion of electricity and power engineering and technical services will be exported in the current Iranian year (started March 20).

Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad said on Sunday that Arabian countries including Iraq, Syria, Qatar, Oman, Lebanon and UAE are the new customers of Iran's electricity, Mehr News Agency reported.

The official also said that Iran exports 1500 megawatt (MW) of electricity to various countries including Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Persian Gulf littoral states per second, adding the figure is expected to increase to 1600 MW by yearend.

He added that electricity exports increased by 50 percent since the beginning of current Iranian year.

Some 1 billion kilowatts (KW) of electricity are expected to be exported from the country by the end of the current year, Behzad said, adding this will help generate $1 billion of revenues for the country.

He went on to say that Iran is prepared to export electricity to more countries including India, Qatar, UAE and Oman.

The official noted that about $4 billion worth of technical and engineering services will be exported by Iranian manufacturers and contractors to foreign countries in the current year.

Once the electricity projects, which are being implemented under "Mehr-e Mandegard" plan become operational, he said, Iran's electricity generation capacity will exceed 70,000 MW by the next year.
