MUSCAT -- Pakistan Navy ship Tippu Sultan is paying a goodwill visit to the Sultanate of Oman from June 21 to June 25. The ship was commissioned on September 23, 1994 in Pakistan Navy.  PNS Tippu Sultan is named after Sultan Fateh Ali Tippu who ruled Mysore, a sovereign state in South India from 1762 to 1799. Fateh Ali had mastered the arts of riding, lancing, archery and swordsmanship by the age of fifteen. His extraordinary valour earned him the title Tippu, which means 'tiger' in his native language.

Words like honour, gallantry and courage are synonymous with his name. Tippu Sultan will remain a source of pride and motivation for generations to come. The men of PNS Tippu Sultan are especially proud to serve on a ship that has his very name. PNS Tippu Sultan is a leading ship of 25th Destroyer Squadron of Pakistan Naval Fleet.

The extensive sensor and weapons modernisation of the ship and successful achievement of complex integration of various weapon systems is a direct reflection of dedication and professional excellence of officers and CPOs or the sailors of Pakistan Navy.  Captain Mohammad Zubair Shafique, the Commanding Officer, joined Pakistan Navy as Cadet on October 10, 1983 and was commissioned in Operation Branch on January 1, 1988.

He is a graduate of Pakistan Navy War College. His important sea appointments include Gunnery Officer PNS Shamsher, Commanding Officer PNS Jalalat, Operations Officer PNS Babur and Executive Officer of PNS Babur. His important staff and instructor appointments include, Assistant Naval Secretary (Ops) at Naval Headquarters, Fleet Operations Officer, Director Ops Analysis Cell at HQs us Navcent Bahrain and Captain Training at Pakistan Naval Academy.  The assumed the command of the Tippu Sultan on January 31 this year. Presently, the officer is serving in 333ASW squadron as Squadron Pilot.
