Muscat - Oman Cement Co plans to award the contract for supply and installation of a new 150-metric-tonnes-per-hour (MTPH) cement mill to FLSmidth Pvt Ltd, the company said in a disclosure to the Muscat Securities Market (MSM) on Wednesday.
"The company has issued a letter of intent in this regard and the detailed contract will be finalised soon," said Jamal Shamis al Hooti, CEO of Oman Cement.
Oman Cement had earlier said that it is in the process of increasing its cement-grinding capacity by installing a new mill of 150MTPH capacity in the near future.
FLSmidth is a Denmark-based leading supplier of equipment, services and expertise for the cement and minerals industries.
In an announcement on its website, FLSmidth confirmed the signing of a letter of intent with Oman Cement. "However, final negotiations still remain. If and when the contract is finalised and become binding, we shall immediately inform the market," FLSmidth said.
Oman Cement also said that upgradation of kiln-1 is progressing to achieve higher levels of production and better pollution control.
"The kiln is expected to start production in about six months time after completion of the necessary upgradation work," Hooti added.
Oman Cement had also announced that it plans to set up a ready-mix concrete plant and a consultant has been appointed in this regard. The company also plans to improve the pollution control equipment of its line 2 for clinker and a consultant has been appointed in this regard.
