Bahrain - Plans are underway to build a new water park in Daih village, and this could be powered by solar energy, revealed a top councillor.
Initial plans for the project include a large pool to accommodate all age groups as well as a smaller pool for children, besides water games.
A public tender will be opened for the development soon, according to Capital Trustees Board chairman Saleh Tarradah.
He was speaking to the GDN as details of the new water park were revealed by the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry after a meeting with councillors on Monday.

Briefing the council, ministry’s architectural design and beautification department engineer Munther Dhaif said the project will also include a water sports gear store and other amenities.
“Thirty-two car park spaces will be provided, in addition to side spaces that can be used in future if needed, as the initial design presented by the ministry is a simple one, taking into account the reduction in development cost,” he said.
“The 7,000sqm project is aimed at creating a modern park different from existing projects.”
He also revealed the project’s location will be strategic, close to several areas such as Daih, Sanabis, Jidhafs and Seef.
Visitors will be charged a minor fee.
Mr Tarradah suggested the water park could be powered using solar energy and will play its part in providing Bahrain with an additional source of income as well as taking advantage of the location to attract tourists alongside citizens and residents.
He also stressed the importance of allowing leniency in the design of the project (even though the ministry presented the initial plan), taking into consideration changes sought by the investor.
“We suggested increasing the number of available car spaces, as well as using umbrellas for the pools especially in the summer heat and possibly using solar energy to power the project,” he said.
“The investor should be responsible not just for the development of the project, but also its maintenance and operation for the duration of the contract and the entire park will be under their responsibility.
“It is also crucial to ensure that the fees are small and appropriate, so that everyone can have access to the park and enjoy its facilities and look into the possibility of dedicating a day in the week just for women.”
He also stressed the importance of implementing the latest technologies in the park while ensuring the highest health and safety standards for its visitors, and co-ordinating with area residents to ensure they are not inconvenienced.
“This project aims to enhance Bahrain’s position as a tourist destination with programmes and activities available for families throughout the year,” he added.
“Families want gardens, pools and coasts where they can spend their vacation and free time.”
Mr Tarradah also revealed the possibility of incorporating other entertainment facilities within the project, which might include video games, a food court, or other entertainment facilities as per the investor’s plans.
