Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended the inauguration of Spanish ceramics major Porcelanosa's brand-new showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, last week. The launch was also attended by several VIPs and industry experts.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ammar Hayani, managing director of Porcelanosa Dubai, said that like all fashion trends, interior designs also go through different cycles - which is why it is important to stay ahead of the latest design trends.

"Our design team goes above and beyond in ensuring that they are up to date on the latest trends," he said.

"This involves going around the world with a focus on studying the latest trends and the needs of different markets. This can revolve around the latest materials and design trends. Our vision is to be the player that is responsible for bringing these trends and products to the market before anyone else. If there is a product that a client wants, and which is not available in our collection, we have the capabilities to introduce it to the market at a very fast pace."

Hayani said that he believes that 80 per cent of the trends in the market stem from the globalisation of designs - usually through social media - while the remaining 20 per cent come from regional and local preferences. "We try to anticipate the latest trends in the market, because we are present in 160 countries. However, our identity and spirit is Spanish," he said.

Speaking about the company's plans for the region, Hayani said that Dubai is a design market like no other. "There are many different nationalities working here, and they each bring something new and unique to the landscape; this melting pot of cultures has created a truly international hub for designers."

He added: "We have aligned ourselves with the initiatives set by the leadership of the UAE. Dubai for us is a hub both locally and regionally. We help designers select the appropriate materials for their projects and coordinate with them on their vision for the project. We help the design community by offering a one stop solution for all their needs."
