KUWAIT CITY: "We are eyeing Kuwait as the next country for AMA Computer University after the very successful establishment of AMA Bahrain International University," disclosed Charles Joseph Ramos, the International Business Development Vice President of AMA Computer University who arrived in Kuwait to check on the possibility of bringing the largest ICT University in Asia to Kuwait. Philippine Ambassador Ricardo Endaya welcomed Ramos to Kuwait as he expressed the Philippine embassy's full support to AMA's plans. "We have a lot of world-class universities in the Philippines that are at par with the rest of the world and it would be our great pride if one day, a top notch Philippine university will be in Kuwait," stated Endaya.

On the other hand, Ramos cited that Bahrain's higher education landscape received a major boost with the opening of AMA International University's Bahrain branch in September 2002. AMA's credentials as a top notch educational institution specialising in information technology and technical studies has long been established and it is now considered one of the largest information and communications technology (ICT) universities in Asia.

AMA has designed its curriculum for Bahrain with an eye on providing the kingdom with highly skilled IT graduates that are able to meet the ever increasing demands of the job market. Currently, AMA International University Bahrain offers four bachelors degree and two masters programmes in Computer Science, International Studies, Business Informatics and Engineering. "If permitted, hopefully, we can do the same here in Kuwait," pointed out Ramos. Founded in 1980 in the Philippines by prominent educator Dr Amable R. Aguiluz V, AMA's network of computer centres are located in Los Angeles, USA, Saudi Arabia  Bangladesh, Guam, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Thailand. and Singapore.

Ramos cited that AMA's ISO 9001 certification ensures that each of the centres abide by globally recognised standards for world-class universities. To date, only AMA has developed on-line learning in the Philippines. It is also the first school in the Philippines that is developing a University town comparable to Harvard, MIT and others in the world. "We hope that our visit will generate positive results for we know that Kuwait puts so much importance to education by giving the best education to its citizens as well as the expatriates," stressed Ramos. Ramos is set to meet with officials at the Ministry of Higher Education and some Kuwaiti educators who are interested in venturing with AMA Computer University.
