Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi said on Saturday that the ministry will employ transparent mechanisms to ensure safety of the parliamentary election scheduled to be held on March 15, 2008.
He told IRNA that the ministry has decided to computerize vote counting and make it accessible to all on the Internet.
Pour Mohammadi said, however, that the Interior Ministry is currently holding consultations with the Guardian Council to secure their agreement on mechanized count of votes.
He said that election campaign is necessary for lively elections, but, the candidates should respect the law during the election campaign.
Pour-Mohammadi said that appointment of Brigadier-General Ali-Reza Afshar as his deputy will have no impact on the election and that the appointment has been made to use Afshar's administrative skills.
He promised that the Interior Ministry will adopt the advanced methods to ensure high quality of the election and that Afshar's political affiliation as a commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has nothing to do with the election.
Elsewhere in his statement, Pour-Mohammadi assured the dailies for their free activities in the aftermath of the election and that they will be free to publish on Noruz holidays to cover the news about election.
