Erbil - A major energy conference in Erbil city, Iraqi Kurdistan's capital, is set to promote foreign investment in Kurdistan's nascent oil and gas sector.
The conference, organized by London-based specialist CWC group, will kick off next month in Erbil's Saad Abdullah conference hall. Running from Dec. 12 to 15 the conference is supported by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
A combination of energy professionals and analysts will explore Iraq's new role in a global context, will highlight the impact of investors on Iraq's economy and how the Kurdistan region and Iraq are looking to open markets and resources.
"So far, some 300 delegates from world's energy giants have registered for the conference. Among them are Exxon Mobil, Marathon, Hess, Genel Energy and Gulf Keystone," a KRG adviser familiar with the conference told AKnews.
The event is expected to be attended by key figures including regional leaders, Iraqi officials and foreign diplomats. Speakers will include KRG Prime Minister Barham Ahmed Salih, KRG Minister of Natural Resources Ashti Hawrami. The British Ambassador to Baghdad Michael Aron and Tony Haywood, former BP chair and currently CEO of Valleres, will be among the speakers.
