Tehran - Speaking at a conference about Palestine in Tehran, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi addressed a wide range of topics and reminded the audience in Tehran of the Iraqi commitment and sacrifices for Palestine.
In a disturbing remark he referred to the "caravans of Iraqi martyrs" who were killed in the "defense of Palestine".
"The Palestinians celebrate the anniversary of Iraqi martyrs who fell on the land of Palestine, and a memorial was established for them in the town of Qabatiya, near Jenin city," Nujaifi said.
Nujaifi then called on Arabs and Muslims to defend the Arab World against foreign interference. Especially Iraq would be suffering from that, in addition to sectarian violence. He suggested to found an "Islamic Union" in order to defend the interests of Islamic nations in the world and claimed that this would take the European Union as an example.
However, Nujaifi never provided any details for his plans, nor any evidence for his remarks.
