Amman - Jordan's budget deficit had plummeted over the first half of the current year, according to official data released today.

According to an initial bulletin issued on Sunday by the Ministry of Finance, the deficit in the state budget amounted to JD441.7 million between January and June, down from JD575.1 million in the same period in 2011.

The figures also showed that the deficit in the state budget after the foreign grants rose to JD416.5 million compared to JD260.1 million in the same period of last year.

The deficit in the budget represents the difference between public revenues and expenditures.

According to the bulletin, the total domestic revenues and foreign aid by the end of June had amounted to JD2.50 billion, JD2479 million for domestic revenues and JD25.2 million for foreign aid.

The figures also showed that the total expenditures for the first six months of this year had recorded JD2.920 billion, JD2.716 billion for current expenditures and JD204.4 million for capital expenditure.
