BEIRUT: Airport officials denied Monday media reports about possible security breaches of Rafik Hariri International Airport’s navigation services. “What was mentioned about penetrations into the airport’s services are not true, and it is important to state that the whole navigation services currently at use at the airport function in a restricted information network,” said Danielle Douweihy, the director general of the Civil Aviation Department at the Rafik Hariri International Airport. Local news channel Al-Jadeed had aired a report that suggested Beirut’s airport was susceptible to breaches from foreign security services and also raised questions over the safety of the country’s only airport. Douweihy also said that the media should study their sources carefully before using them in televised reports. “We hoped that [NewTV] would have informed us of their report before airing it and raising fear among the people,” Douweihy added. – The Daily Star
