A BD3 million development project to revamp a water park in Salmaniya is to begin by the end of this year.
Director General of the Manama Municipality, Engineer Yousef Al Ghatim, revealed yesterday that the park will be transformed into a model recreational area for citizens, residents and tourists and will provide a large variety of up-market restaurants and water-related activities.
Al Ghatim confirmed in a statement to our sister newspaper Al Ayam, that the Manama Municipality is finalizing an agreement with an investor and work on the project will begin by the end of the year.
He added that some of the old games and rides located in the park will be transferred to the Salmaniya park which contains large unused spaces.
This will help make this other park more entertaining for children.
The park is being developed in accordance with the directives of Wife of His Majesty the King Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa for a model park to be established in Bahrain to promote tourism and an up-market recreational area for citizens and residents.
Al Ghatim added that the park will also serve as an environmentally friendly area and will include gardens of Bahraini plants and flowers.
The municipality is also considering the possibility of building a well for use in the garden's ponds.
Princess Sabeekha visited the water park last as part of her efforts to follow up on the development work being carried out on public gardens and parks in different governorates across the Kingdom and in preparation for the 6th Bahrain International Garden Show held in April 2009.
During the visit, Princess Sabeeka confirmed the importance of supporting the municipality and helping to develop the services provided to citizens, particularly with regard to recreational facilities such as public gardens and parks.
