The first phase of development work on a key road in the Southern Governorate has started, it was announced.
Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf said yesterday that the Shaikh Humood Bin Sabad Street in Riffa will serve 67 properties.
This includes government institutions in the region including the Military Museum, Family Court, the East Riffa Health Centre, the Shaikh Salman Bin Ahmed Al Fateh Fort and several schools.
“The ministry is working on developing the roads network across the governorates of Bahrain in order to achieve the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and meet the needs of citizens and residents to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and raise the level of traffic safety,” said Mr Khalaf in a statement yesterday.
“The road provides a major link between Riffa Street, Eastern Riffa and Hunainiya as the area is characterised by high population density in addition to being a commercial street with many service institutions.
“The project includes rebuilding the infrastructure of the 3.8km road as well as developing a rainwater drainage network and sidewalks.
“It also includes developing the lighting network and installation of underground canals to be used for other technical services in the future to avoid breaking the asphalt.”
He highlighted that traffic and guidance signs will also be installed to ensure the required safety and security as the road serves multiple commercial and general services establishments.
Mr Khalaf also highlighted that the transport sector in Bahrain is under continuous follow-up and attention due to its importance and links to sustainable development as well as to the economy.
