AL AIN, 10th October, 2016 (WAM) -- The Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre (SZDLC) was opened today in Al Ain Zoo by His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council.

The centre is not just an academic and cultural institution but a tourist attraction as well. It sustains the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE, and also highlights the natural, cultural and historical life of the UAE in a detailed, unique and innovative manner.

"The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's strong connection with the desert contributed to the formation of his emotional and cultural heritage and the SZDLC reflects this unique relationship," Sheikh Hazza said during the opening ceremony.

Accompanied by a number of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council members, Sheikh Hazza toured Al Ain Zoo, and was briefed about the rich aqua creatures and nature present there. He also familiarised himself with the SZDLC, lauding the attention of the Emirati staff who are working in the tourism field at the centre.

The establishment of the centre reflects the commitment of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in propagating the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed to protect the environment and encourage sustainable development.

Sheikh Hazza was received by a number of officials, and later also inspected a number of projects expected to be opened this year.

The event was organised under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
