SHARJAH: H.H Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince of Sharjah, said volunteering is now a pillar of the process of development and a cornerstone in promoting social solidarity.
In remarks at the award giving ceremony held by the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work, Sheikh Sultan added that the Award, which was launched by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah, continues to recognize the efforts of volunteers and their services for their community and country. Minister of Education Humaid Mohammed Al Qattami, in a speech at the ceremony, hailed the UAE's culture of volunteering which is now an established institutional as well as individual approach. He praised the efforts of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah for their support to voluntary work in the UAE. H.H Sheikh Sultan, at the ceremony, presented the winners of the Award with medals. From the UAE, the winners of the 8th edition of Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work are HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, wife of H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Rulers' Representative in the Western Region, The Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahayn Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, Tawteen Programme (Abu Dhabi's Emirates Foundation), Sharjah Police, Al Ain Municipality, Emiri Guard Unit, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Dubai Media Inc, Dubai Courts, Al Sahra Group, Friends of the Environment Society and Al Huda Memorization Center (Sharjah).
