DOHA, June 6 (KUNA) -- Qatari Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada said Wednesday the launching of the industrial map of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states constitutes "a critical juncture" in the development process of the industrial sector in the region.

Unveiling the map here, the minister said: "The development of the map stemmed from the GCC leaders' strong conviction of the need to improve the industrial infrastructure of their countries, diversify their economies, and domesticate modern hi-tech and technical know-how." "The map is a credible and calculated attempt aiming to increase investment in the industrial sector in the face of the global economic challenges," the minister said.

"It is in keeping with the visions and strategies of the GCC countries for cartelizing economic growth and boosting industrial cooperation and the public-private sector partnerships," Al-Sada added.

He voiced hope that the map will set the stage for launching major joint ventures among the GCC companies and provide an opportunity for networking among the region's industrialists.
