Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) has set a record in its daily production rate, announced the company's managing director.
Javad Najmeddin said that the industrial group has managed to produce an average of 3,100 of vehicles per day, adding the achievement is unprecedented in the country's automobile manufacturing industries, IRNA reported.
He further noted that plans are underway to increase the number of cars manufactured by Iran Khodro to 850,000 per annum.
According to Najmeddin, 423,308 various models of cars were produced by the industrial group in the past seven months.
Earlier IKCO announced a plan to mass-produce a new domestically-built car engine in the Iranian year starting March 2012.
The car manufacturer said in a Wednesday statement that the new 1400cc EF4 engine, which meets Euro-5 emission standard, will be installed on home-designed passenger vehicle Runna, Presstv reported.
Najmeddin placed special importance on the production of the 'environmental-friendly' engine and noted that EF4 will be produced using '95 percent domestic parts'.
The 1400cc engine is designed and manufactured in both gasoline- and natural-gas-based versions, the statement added.
