Four strategic themes on the status & the future of the regional and international maritime industry

The launching preparations for the "Dubai Maritime Agenda 2015" have already commenced. The event, which is being held for the first time in the Middle East region on November 11, 2015, is being organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council. "Dubai Maritime Agenda 2015" is expected to be attended by senior government officials, international experts, decision-makers and pioneers to learn about Dubai's role in shaping the future of the regional and international maritime sector.

The event is organized within the framework of 'the maritime sector strategy of Dubai' and is aimed towards the development and strengthening of the local marine industry-- creating a favorable environment for business and investment; promoting economic development and transforming Dubai into one of the most advanced maritime hubs.

The "Dubai Maritime Agenda 2015" will include the organization of four strategic discussion sessions centered on reviewing the position and presence of the local maritime sector in the global maritime map, as well as to learn more about the latest developments within the global marine scene and the best means available to enhance the contribution of the maritime industry in supporting emerging and advanced economies in the world while also highlighting the proactive efforts aimed at bringing Dubai to the ranks of the largest international maritime capitals in the world within the next five years.

The first scheduled session, entitled 'The state of the Global Maritime Sector,' will address the current macroeconomic outlook for the global economy and what it represents for the global maritime industry on the short and medium term. Discussions will focus on the most promising prospects in Dubai, in conjunction with the growing role of trade in economic rebalancing and the growing interest in the commercial sector in Asia. During the second session, 'Global Marine Services,' participants will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the possibilities of the unique competitive advantages that Dubai and the UAE enjoy in general, especially in terms of meeting the increasing demand for new centers to promote excellence in maritime law, ship financing, brokerage, marine insurance and others.

The third session, 'Maritime Arbitration,' will host a committee of leading experts to share their visions, ideas and aspirations on the development of methodologies for the settlement of maritime disputes in the region and the role of Dubai growth in the development of legislative and legal solid foundations that will resolve disputes relating to the various international marine business operations. Lastly, the fourth session entitled 'The future of the global maritime sector.' will shed light on what maritime experts can expect in terms of the most important trends, future opportunities and challenges in the maritime sector on both a global and local scale. This applies particularly across the organizational side and the immediate implementation of new environmental rules. The last session will centre the discussion on the importance of the human element in the maritime sector and the challenges facing the human resources of the stakeholders in the area of ​​maritime domain, as well as the continuing need to supplement human resources, high quality education and training.
