With just four years to go before the event opens its doors to the public, the Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau has given an update on construction work at the site:

- Early works are expected to be completed by the end of this year, including completion of excavation of the basement for the three thematic districts.

- Construction of the separate thematic districts is set to begin in 2017.

- The media centre, VIP facilities and other operational areas will be completed by 2018, with all infrastructure work expected to be completed by October 2019.

- After the Expo 2020 is over in 2021, the site will transition to the legacy phase, with 80 percent of the site repurposed for future use.
