Fujairah, one of the seven emirates making up the United Arab Emirates, is witnessing an upsurge in new projects and initiatives, contributing to a growth in business activity in the area.

The Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry earlier this week announced the launch of Bedaya, a start-up programme that will provide support and specialist services to local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and young local business leaders, the UAE’s Arabic daily Alroeya newspaper reported on Monday.

The initiative is meant to help young, local businesspeople turn their creative commercial ideas into successful projects, the newspaper said, citing the chamber’s chairman, Khalifa Al Kaabi.

During its first phase, the programme will provide 20 equipped offices for young businesspeople, training opportunities and exemptions from several administrative fees.

Elsewhere in Fujairah, Eagle Hills, the Abu Dhabi-based private real estate investment and development company, announced on Tuesday it had signed a 300 million dirhams deal with the National Bank of Fujairah to finance the ongoing construction of a new resort, spa and residential development project. The Eagle Hills project was initially announced in April.

Fujairah is known for its amazing beaches along its 230 metre long coast along the Indian Ocean. The Eagle Hills project news was initially announced in April.

In a further attempt to boost the flow of businesses into the emirate, the Fujairah government last month signed an agreement to start the first phase of constructing a new smart logistics city.

A new expressway linking the UAE to Oman through Fujairah is also expected to be finalised by next year, Gulf News reported earlier this year.
