JEDDAH: Official sources have suggested that all health practitioners in the country be mandated to take out insurance for their work, rather than this obligation being limited to doctors alone.

The sources pointed out to a local newspaper that the implementation of the concept would include all health sectors in the Ministry of Health, medical services of the Armed Forces, medical services of the Interior Ministry, as well as medical services of the National Guard, the Red Crescent, the private health sector and university hospitals.

The call comes after the suggestion was submitted by Shoura Council member Fahad Al-Anzi, who pointed out that medical scenarios occur in which some health practitioners make mistakes and are forced to pay fines and compensation without having personal insurance. He added that this payment can affect their lives significantly.
