Emirates flights to Saudi Arabia are still suspended, while trips to Oman have resumed, the UAE-based airline has confirmed.

In its updated advisory on Tuesday, Emirates said flights to Saudi Arabia remain suspended until December 30, 2020. Customers holding tickets for destinations in Saudi Arabia during this period will not be accepted to travel at their point of origin, the airline advised.

For passengers wishing to depart Saudi, Emirates is recommending flights departing from Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh from December 28. However, only non-Saudi nationals will be accepted for travel on these flights.

As for passengers travelling to and from Oman, Emirates advised that flights on the route have resumed with effect from December 28.

Last week, the carrier announced the suspension of flights to the kingdom for approximately one week, after the Gulf state opted to ban international flights on concerns over a new COVID-19 variant in the United Kingdom.

The Saudi ban has just been extended for another week, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday. Non-Saudi nationals, however, will be allowed to leave the country and “exceptional cases” will not be covered by the entry ban, according to reports.

Several countries around the world have closed their borders recently, following reports that a new and more contagious coronavirus strain has spread rapidly in the UK.
