Dubai is the most popular destination for Gulf travellers over the holiday period, according to a report released last week.

The UAE’s main shopping and tourism hub, Dubai, is the most popular location for Gulf-based travellers, followed by Abu Dhabi and the Saudi city of Al Medina, according to a press release issued last Wednesday by the HotelsCombined.com, an online hotel booking website.

Internationally, the British capital London was the top choice, followed by Istanbul and Paris, the report said.

“Destinations like Dubai and London are very popular among travelers during the festive season as it is easy to get visas to these countries. Dubai itself is a popular attraction for youngsters, families and couples; and is also a hub for travelers heading to other destinations outside the Middle East,” Amer Alhalabi, regional manager for the Middle East and North Africa said in the HotelsCombined.com press release.

For hotel prices, the average cost per night for a room in London was $200, according to the website, based on bookings made in the period between December 22, 2017 and January 2, 2018.

For the same period, Dubai come in at an average price of $176 per night, followed by Paris ($142), Abu Dhabi ($104) and Istanbul ($57).

In terms of source destinations into the Gulf, the majority of travellers are coming from United Kingdom, South Africa and Russia, the report said.
