Muscat: Tourists visiting Oman will soon receive mandatory health insurance on their arrival in the Sultanate.

The nation’s Capital Market Authority (CMA) is currently working with several government entities including the Ministry of Health and the Royal Oman Police to create a plan for the implementation of compulsory health insurance.

The move follows a decision taken last year, by Oman’s Council of Ministers, to make health insurance compulsory for all residents and citizens in the country in 2018.

“As to the insurance for visitors entering Oman from the various entry points CMA is working with the Royal Oman Police to set out appropriate methods for health insurance for visitors to ease [the process of] obtaining such insurance at the border checkpoints,” officials at CMA said.

Tourism is earmarked as one of the Sultanate’s major expansion points as part of the Tanfeedh plans for economic diversification.
