Muscat: The Sultanate’s first specialised private hospital for women and children is being built in Sohar, according to tenders released by the Oman Investment Corporation.

“The hospital is the first specialised private hospital in Sohar for women and children, with a total capacity of 70 beds,” Dr. Khalid Elkondakly, Healthcare Project Development Director at Oman Investment Corporation, told the Times of Oman.

“The hospital will include three major operating rooms, with a fully equipped recovery area supported by an intensive care unit for adult and paediatric patients,” he added.

“Additionally, the hospital will feature nine labour and delivery rooms plus highly advanced neonatal facilities, and a well-being centre for women alongside supportive specialities such as internal medicine, general surgery, and on-call surgery to treat tumours in women. There will also be a physiotherapy department.”

The hospital is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2020.

“The hospital is the first in Oman to be based on the western model,” explained Elkondakly. “We are also in the process of receiving affiliation and technical support from major healthcare institutions in the West.”
