Dubai: Innovative fintech start-up PayBy has partnered with Al Maya Group, one of the largest supermarket chains in the UAE, to ensure safe, secure and seamless shopping experiences. A great number of consumers shop daily at Al Maya supermarkets in the country, and they can now pay using PayBy’s contactless payment solutions, instead of handling cash or cards.

Al Maya Group Director, Kamal Vachani, said: “As one of the UAE’s largest supermarket chains, Al Maya’s Supermarkets reputation is built on the trust of our loyal customers. Since the pandemic began, we have consciously pivoted to serve customers in a safe and secure manner, whether in store or through home deliveries. The collaboration with PayBy ensures consumers who choose to shop in store can pay for their baskets using this contactless, swift and convenient payment option.  At the back-end, PayBy enhances operational efficiencies, and safeguards staff health and welfare as they are not required to handle cash or cards.”

When shopping in Al Maya supermarkets, customers simply present the QR code in their PayBy app, let the cashier scan it and wait for the payment confirmation. Al Maya Supermarkets cashiers use PayBy Smart POS machines to scan the QR Code sent on the shopper’s mobile. Smart POS devices enable merchants to receive or refund transactional money.

PayBy will also support Al Maya’s Supermarkets digital shopping platform. In the next phase of the partnership, PayBy will be integrated with the Al Maya’s mobile application, so online shoppers can pay on delivery using cashless methods.

Since March 2020, PayBy has been powering contactless and cashless payments for UAE merchants, such as the Lulu Group and Al Ain Coop. Pharmacy chains Al Ain Pharmacy and Al Manara Pharmacy (part of Delta Medical Est) have signed up with PayBy to enable cashless payments at the outlets. PayBy can also be used to pay for utilities, mobile bills and to instantly transfer cash (P2P payments) in a contactless, cashless and secure manner.
