The rebranded version of Oman National Transport Company is on an upsurge. It has transported the highest number of passengers ever in its history - nearly 3.6mn people over the last one year.

Mwasalat, the rebranded version of Oman National Transport Company, has chalked up an important achievement by transporting nearly 3.6mn passengers in a year since the commencement of operations under its new identity on November 22, 2015. A press release from the company said that the figures pertained to all domestic routes in Muscat governorate and intercity lines to the various governorates in the sultanate.

In Muscat, the Ruwi-Ma’abela route saw the heaviest rush with Mwasalat buses transporting more than 1,500,000 passengers. This was followed by the Ruwi-Wadi Kabir route, which had more than 800,000 passengers, the Ruwi-Muttrah-Qasr al Alam route with more 300,000 passengers and the Ruwi-Wadi Adai route which saw more than 250,000 passengers.

Mwasalat’s buses transported 272,905 passengers on intercity routes from Muscat to other governorates including the Muscat-Sohar-Buraimi, Muscat-Nizwa-Salalah and Muscat-Sohar-Dubai routes.

On November 25, the company launched its Muscat-Duqm line thereby operating all the lines advertised in its 2016 plan.

Ahmed bin Ali al Balushi, CEO, said, “Thankfully, the company has completed a whole year since the start of operations under its new identity in November last year, contributing greatly to the public transport development in the sultanate by the expansion of the domestic and intercity lines and the enhancement of other accompanying services provided by the company; the company is currently capable of transporting more than 10,000 passengers per weekday and more than 16,000 passengers on Fridays only.”

He added that Mwasalat “is currently engaged in the process of the development of all services to be offered in the coming period, and is seeking closely to promote its services with the latest systems and technological equipment in public transport buses to cope with the developments taking place in the company to offer users easy access to all the details of related trips, times and other data.”
