ABU DHABI, 19th April, 2017 (WAM) -- The Abu Dhabi City Municipality,ADM, signed three agreements on Wednesday for building communitymarkets at Yas Island, Al Wathba City and Al Shamkha City during itsparticipation in Cityscape 2017.

Musabbah Mubarak Al Murar, Acting General Manager of Abu Dhabi CityMunicipality, said, "In partnership with the private sector, themunicipality will construct the community market project at Yas Islandover an area of 13,000 square metres, with a cost tag of AED65million.""The community market is Al Wathba market, with a floor area of 5,000square metres, and at a cost of AED21 million," elaborated Al Murar.

"Another community market is Al Shamkha Community Market Project,which occupies a floor area 16,000 square metres, and costs nearlyAED68 million.''An agreement has been signed to design, construct, operate and investa Community Market Project in Baniyas, located on land plot number(C16) in Sector (EB2 - 03), with a floor area of 9,000 square metresat an estimated cost of AED45 million.

"An AED160 million Community Market will be built in Shakhbut city.

This two-year project has a floor area of 33,000 square metres," addedAl Murar.

"The municipality also plans to construct a community market inMohammed Bin Zayed City in co-operation with the private sector,spanning an area of 36,000 square metres, costing about AED170million.""Finally, the municipality is planning to establish a community marketproject in Khalifa City, attached to Al Raha Park, with a floor areaof 2,700 square metres, costing some AED15 million," he said.

"One of the key objectives of establishing community markets in theseareas is to raise the standard of living in the city and residentialareas by providing convenience stores and high-quality servicefacilities. The community centres will also meet the aspirations ofthe neighbourhood, promote social life, bring happiness to people andnurture a healthy environment for business, shopping andentertainment.""The projects aim to utilise public spaces in establishing qualityprojects, as these markets will provide service and shoppingfacilities with top specifications to improve the standard of livingin these areas," Al Murar stated.

''The Modern Community Markets in the suburbs of Abu Dhabi, comprisingseven markets at a total cost of about AED 550 million," he noted.
