An employee who was fired from his job by his company without prior warning has been awarded more than BD15,000 in compensation.

The 34-year-old Indian was working as a site engineer at a construction company, drawing a monthly salary of BD600.

He went on a holiday to India on September 21 last year but four days later he received an email informing him that he had been sacked and his visa cancelled.

A case of unlawful termination of services was filed at the High Administrative Court.

Lawyer Bushra Mayoof requested BD15,809 in compensation which the court granted yesterday.

“My client was shocked when he went on a holiday and found out that his visa was cancelled because he was fired from his job,” she told the GDN.

“He was told he could not return to Bahrain or to his job; neither a reason was given nor a prior warning.

“He had just gone on a holiday with the knowledge of the company.

“This was not fair on the part of the company which did not follow proper legal procedures.

“I filed a case at the High Administrative Court which was accepted and he was awarded a compensation of BD15,809.”
