Riyadh – President of the Saudi Public Transport Authority (PTA), Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih, said the Haramain high-speed train will return to service at full capacity soon.
The PTA president told CNBC Arabia TV that the resumption could take place before the end of this year or during the first two months of 2021.
The Haramain high-speed train commenced its services since a year and a half. Trips through the train were halted due to the suspension of transportation and Umrah services as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
On maritime transport, Al-Rumaih cited the “Bahri Taxi” project, being implemented by Jeddah Municipality, as a key investment, stressing that the linkage project between cities is essential in maritime transport.
He revealed that some promising opportunities will be offered to the private sector soon.
The PTA is currently at the final stage to implement a merger between the Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) and the Saudi Railways Company (SAR). The merger is expected to complete in 2020 or during the first quarter (Q1) of 2021, Al-Rumaih said.
SRO’s projects and employees will be moved to SAR to increase efficiency and reduce costs, he noted.
