The plans for this resort were announced by the company’s chairman, Dr Khaled Al Matani, who also honoured legendary Oman goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi during the event, for his years of service to the national football team, and for helping to raise the standards and awareness of the sport in the country.
He was given an apartment in BBH’s Muhallab apartment project for his service, and a traditional Omani dagger, at a ceremony held at the Kempinski Hotel Muscat, in the presence of a number of senior officials.
“At the launch of the Pearl Resort project in Al Ashkara, it is our honour to celebrate our captain, Ali Al Habsi, who is an incentive for Oman’s youth,” said Al Matani. “We hope the country’s youth can follow his example to raise Oman’s profile across the world.”
Overlooking the Arabian Sea, the Pearl Resort will be a one-of-a-kind luxury offering that will feature chalets built in both traditional and modern styles, interspersed with lush greenery, and will be under a specialised global management team. Work on the project is expected to start soon and will continue for the next 18 months.
“He is among Oman’s most prominent and inspirational players, who has been on many podiums to accept trophies for the teams for which he has played, be it the national team, or many of the club sides he has featured for. Us honouring this leader of sport is only an extension of the gratitude felt by his homeland towards its stars, and is a small fraction of the attention provided by the country in terms of supporting and motivating its youth.”
Ali Al Habsi is long remembered in Oman for his key role in helping the country earn its first-ever Arab Gulf Cup of Nations, which the Sultanate won in 2009 when the national team beat Saudi Arabia 6-5 on penalties on home soil in Muscat.
Present at this ceremony were a number of people linked to the sporting world, including Al Habsi’s former national teammate Imad Al Hosni, and members of Oman’s coaching staff.
