Cairo - Hawai for Tourism and Investment, a leading company in real estate and tourism development, held a press conference at El Masalah Garden to announce the launch of Cairo Eye project.

The conference was attended by the Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning Major General Amir Sayed Ahmed, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled al-Anani, Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal, and Dr. Abd el Rahman Saeed, Head of the technical secretariat for disposal of state property, as well as other governmental officials and project partners.

The press conference disclosed exclusive details on the project, the first observation wheel in Cairo and the largest wheel in the African continent, standing at 120 meters high. The project will offer a unique panoramic view of the city from a distance of 50 km and overlook Egypt’s landmarks.

“Cairo Eye will play a strategic role in sustainable tourism development, in line with Egypt’s vision 2030,” stated Khaled Abdel Aal, Cairo Governor. “The project complements the efforts underway to reshape and upgrade the Capital; including Ahl Misr Walkway project, which is currently being constructed on the Nile Corniche in Cairo, as well as other development projects” He added.

Abdel Aal stressed that Cairo governorate is fully supporting the project to emerge in a way that befits Cairo in preparation for the transfer of all ministries and governmental bodies to the New Administrative Capital and making Cairo a touristic destination, with the aim to position Egypt globally.

Mr. Ahmed Metwally, Chairman of Hawai for Tourism and Investment, stated that Cairo Eye is built on an area of 20,000 SQM with investments of worth of EGP 500 Million. The event is set to launch in 2022, targeting 2.5 million visitors annually and offering 1200 direct and 4,000 indirect employment opportunities.

“The project comes in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and its strategic development plan across sectors, including tourism development,” added Mr. Metwally.

“The project is designed with environmental aspects in mind; preserving the entire park’s existing trees and palm trees, to remain true to the legacy and identity of Zamalek area. The design also aims to increase the total green spaces by 15% where total greenery will amount to 7,000 SQM instead of 6,100 SQM,” Metwally highlighted.

The project has put in place a carefully curated study to ensure traffic management and smooth flow of traffic to avoid congestion. Traveling to and from the Cairo Eye will be made easier with the Cairo Eye Nile Taxi, hop-on/hop-off Cairo Eye buses and a ground car park with a capacity of 500 cars.

The wheel features 48 cabins with a capacity of 8 individual per cabin, and will target 2.5 million visitors annually. The new hub will offer an integrated touristic and entertainment destination, with the aim to provide a unique entertainment experience in the heart of Cairo.

The project, which is set to launch in 2022, will incorporate a wide range of services and facilities that include retail units for international brands, service units, fine dining outlets,  food court, boat deck and a multi-purpose events hall.
