Ajman: The Ajman Department of Tourism Development, within the scope of its cultural agenda, seeks to shed light on all forms of arts and creative drawings and the cultural values of Ajman, and present a diverse experience through its natural landscapes, historical buildings, and various activities it offers, which contributes to enriching it with young talents to reinforce the emirate’s position as a dynamic destination for arts and culture, a home for innovators, and a hub for talents. The festival will launch on October 28 until November 6, and will be held in the Ajman Heritage District surrounding the Ajman Museum.

The slogan of this year’s festival “Inspired By Yesterday To Imagine Tomorrow” reflects the characters of human’s legacy in the UAE, its deep connection with the past, and the ability to preserve the cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations.

The festival was named after the Al Murabbaa Watch Tower which is one of the most important touristic attractions located on the Ajman corniche. Al Murabbaa Fort was built in the 30’s under the direction of Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Ruler of Ajman (1928-1981), to serve as a watch tower and a lookout for travellers entering Ajman from the southwest side, and provide safety to the citizens of the city.

Due to its historical significance, His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, ordered the restoration of Al Murabbaa Fort to be preserved as a historical landmark and a monument of the past. Architecturally, Al Murabbaa Fort played an important as a defensive and watch tower in the Gulf and was considered a notable structure there, as it consists of two floors and a balcony and small wall openings for defense. Not having any openings or windows in its ground floor helped in strengthening the structure’s strength and stability.

Al Murabbaa Fort is considered today as one of the most famous touristic attractions in Ajman due to its location on Ajman corniche, an area buzzing with tourists, restaurants, shops, resorts, and entertainment.

The emirate of Ajman accommodates many museums and historical landmarks that are considered as touristic destinations and a historical beacon of existence and timeless memories that portrays the emirate’s real identity, in addition to the Ajman Fort built in the late 18th century as the emirate’s first line of defense, and was later transformed into a museum that exhibits the life of the ancestors, their customs, and their professions. All this was manifested in unique expressive statues crafted with high precision and details, and stands out from other forts and castles in Ajman by its singularity and architectural style, and its solid construction that remained resilient to all exploits throughout the years. In addition, both Al Manama and Masfout areas host a number of historical forts and castles such as Al Manama Castle, Hassa Buweid Castle, and Masfout Castle which dates back to the 19th century and located in the north of Masfout, 120km southeast of Ajman.

Saud Aljasmi, Head of Events at Ajman Department of Tourism Development, said that naming the festival by “Al Murabbaa” was a result of the department’s belief in the importance of preserving historical landmarks in the emirate, promoting the cultural and historical heritage of Ajman, and connecting the new generations to their history. This festival aims to shed light on the historical, cultural, and touristic importance the Al Murabbaa Fort constitutes, especially since it is considered as an ideal destination for visitors looking to delve into UAE’s developmental and progressive movement which has become the world’s center of attention and a touristic model that Ajman counts on for its vision in developing the tourism sector in the future.

Aljasmi added that the naming of the festival and linking it to the authentic heritage the Al Murabbaa Fort represents as a bridge between the past and the present, is considered an ideal approach to reinforce the image and values of the past in the minds of the new generations. which Emiratis take pride in their identity, customs, and traditions.

About Al Murabbaa Arts Festival
