Over 2,155 jobs in Oman announced in public sector

Additionally, over 500 job vacancies have recently been announced in the private sector where 4,800 joined the sector since the beginning of the year beside 4,400 job-seekers currently doing work-related training.

The Ministry of Labour announced that it will provide 32,000 jobs in both the public and the private sector including 12,000 jobs that will be created through replacement in the private sector of which 8 per cent are in the jobs of directors, specialists and technicians.

This is in addition to 9,000 jobs that will be created by training in the human resources management sector and 5,000 jobs that will be generated through replacement in the public sector and 2,800 jobs to be generated through the initiatives launched by many entities last January.

The government seeks to activate the policy of replacement in the public and private sectors, including in the health, education, electricity and water, universities of technology, and the military. The number of job seekers appointed through replacement reaches 7,000.

The ministry’s efforts were culminated in the appointment of 3,010 nationals in the private sector at the end of last March, including 677 citizens with lower qualification than the general education diploma (GED), 909 citizens with GED qualification or its equivalent, 390 citizens who hold a university diploma, and 1,011 citizens who have university degrees and 23 citizens with master’s and doctorate degrees.

In the electricity sector the work is under way to recruit 800 nationals by means of replacement at Nama Group which will possibly raise the Omanization rate in the sector from 47 per cent to 90 per cent.

The Oman Investment Authority seeks to replace 9,000 expats by nationals in government-owned companies where Omanization rate currently stands at 76 per cent.

As a result of the ministry’s efforts, the number of expat workforce declined by 12.2 per cent to 1.4 billion as of April-end.
