MUSCAT: Oman’s leading electricity provider Mazoon Electricity Company has won the ‘Environmental Upgrade of the Year’ recognition at the 2020 Asian Power Awards’ in recognition for its successful environmentally friendly electrical transformers.

Considered as the ‘Oscars of the power industry’, Asian Power Awards honours ground-breaking projects and trailblazing initiatives in the power sector in Asia. The awards aimed at recognising the broad spectrum of Asia’s power industry and acknowledging their vital input. Several leading Asian power companies participated in the awards. The jury of the Asian Power Awards encompassed practitioners and experts from related industry.

Understanding that current and future energy challenges require a market efficient, reliable, and environment-friendly technology, Mazoon Electricity uses modern approaches to implement suitable environmental upgrades. As part of this strategy, the company began using environment friendly green oil as an insulating medium in the electricity transformers rather than traditional mineral oil.  Mazoon Electricity was honoured with the Asian Power Awards for its state-of-the-art execution capabilities of this important project.

The green oil transformers project sets a global benchmark and is differentiated by the environmental and socially responsible approach. Mazoon Electricity believes that shift to green oil in transformers is one of the key steps towards greener and more sustainable future transmission and distribution networks. The chance to use a product, which uses biodegradable oil, was appealing to Mazoon Electricity, which is continually looking at more environmentally sustainable options.
