Muscat, Oman – “We have and must continue to leverage the talents and fuel the dreams of our human capital. This not just includes but prioritizes meeting the ambitions and demands of Oman’s next generation with efficient supply,” stated HE Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Sarmi, Undersecretary of the Omani Ministry of Higher Education during a Press Conference to announce the upcoming MENA Innovation 2019 Forum alongside John Glassey, the Founder and CEO of Arab Brains / Brains Global.

“MENA Innovation is more than a regional event. It’s a benchmark in shared commitment from across the Middle East and North Africa to drive digital transformation and digital skills development from the classroom to the boardroom,” Glassey stated.

MENA Innovation ( https://mena-innovation.com/2019/ ) is to be held under the Patronage of HH Sayyed Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture, hosted by the Omani Ministry of Higher Education and organized by Brains Global.

With 9 Omani Ministers, 15 visiting Ministers and 150 visiting Government Officials, matched by 20 regional university representatives and civil society organizations to be in attendance, the stage is set for a truly groundbreaking, innovative event, to be held in the Sultanate of Oman’s capital of Muscat on September 15th-17th.

“Underneath the themes to be discussed during our interactive panels, such as Artificial Intelligence, the future of learning and ICT Innovation in Education, is the mission to promote innovation and entrepreneurship opportunity amongst Omani and MENA regional young people,” Glassey continued.

The Sultanate has notably made a commitment in Oman’s Vision 2040 to expand beyond what would be a traditional and thusly cyclical commodity-driven marketplace.

“The Sultanate of Oman is experiencing a profound renaissance, in no small part due to the longstanding commitment and collaboration of the stakeholders who will attend MENA Innovation; who have invested wisely in our present capacities and future potential,” continued HE Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Sarmi. “There are plans underway to continue to diversify our economy. From the higher education perspective, we have made it clear that Omanis need to be independent learners and ICT will play a key role in their doing so.

Having graduates that are specialized in certain areas is simply outdated thinking. Graduates should be capable of expanding their education and learning new subjects in order to adapt to future challenges in an ever-globalizing economy.

I look forward to sharing existing and exploring anew profound strategies to further maximize our talents and those of the region to their fullest potential”.

The luxurious Kempinski Al-Mouj will play host to over 50 dedicated meeting areas, connecting directly organizations such as the Islamic Development Bank and GCC regional industry investors to enterprise leaders in educative software, platform devices, academic training, and ICT driven continuous development, with over 900 meetings expected to take place during the two-day proceedings.

The final day of MENA Innovation 2019 will conclude with an exciting, creative and energetic ‘Young Innovators’ Special Session, with an audience including 200 delegates, members of regional government and enterprise joined by over 100 students from leading colleges and universities. Five Omani innovators and five MENA regional innovators will present their dynamic inventions and solution providers, each representing the next generation of entrepreneurial achievements.

“Ultimately, we hope we can make a small contribution to addressing the challenges of innovation and bridging its divide with government policy, proof positive in the changes that are happening now. We have moved MENA Innovation around, with these events often serving like an acorn before transforming in to an oak tree. I hope that 5 years from now, I’m sitting here in Oman, with the event perhaps having a regular home in the Sultanate. It’s THE event for ICT Innovation and Education – one that I implore partners present and future mark in their calendars each year,” Glassey concluded.
