JEDDAH: A special committee has been formed to address the issue of Saudi tenants defaulting on rent payment and abandoning their houses.

The panel has been given the responsibility to get the dues cleared and explore ways to provide suitable housing or support to such citizens, local media reported.

The committee consists of ministries of Interior, Housing, Justice and Labor and Social Development.

The committee will also activate the process for securing houses for those in need in various regions of the Kingdom while the Housing Ministry will be responsible for providing accommodation.

The move comes within the framework of the controls to make decisions on issues relating to absent or defaulting tenants, especially when people flee their homes after learning of their debts, leaving the payments still pending.
