The convergence of ideas from millions of visitors representing over 192 countries worldwide at this exceptional platform, she explained, would catalyse the interconnectedness of societies and nations enabling creativity and progress towards a brighter future for all, celebrating human achievement and innovation under its motto: ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa pointed to the importance of the partnership between Dubai Culture and Expo 2020 in achieving the objectives of this unique global gathering, and its role in solidifying the UAE’s cultural and artistic positioning today and in the future. She added that Dubai Culture, as Official Supporter to Expo 2020 for culture and arts, would play a pivotal role in enriching the experiences of visitors from different cultures and nationalities, offering a broad range of initiatives that would reinforce Dubai’s stature as a worldwide capital of culture, with the elements and environment that can drive an empowered and sustainable creative economy.

Sheikha Latifa added, “Our partnership with Expo 2020 puts culture at the forefront of this event with a host of initiatives, programmes, and creative work environments that manifest Dubai’s vision as the city of the future. It will strengthen the UAE’s international standing, enrich its cultural portfolio, and promote its rich heritage and legacy for the prosperity of future generations and the happiness of our residents and visitors.”

Her Highness further noted that Dubai Culture’s support for Expo 2020 was part of a comprehensive framework that aimed to deliver an awe-inspiring and sustainable legacy extending beyond the UAE. Sheikha Latifa also affirmed that the authority was committed to do its part in making Expo 2020 Dubai one of the most sustainable World Expos ever, in line with the Dubai 2021 Plan, the UAE 2021 Vision, and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.

HE Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau, said: “The signing of this agreement with Dubai Culture shows how everyone in the UAE is coming together to deliver this historical national project. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for her vital role in promoting Dubai’s cultural scene. The agreement will help highlight Emirati heritage and Dubai’s position as a global hub for culture, heritage, art and literature.”

Under its new vision, launched in September 2019 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Culture seeks to make Dubai a global centre for arts and culture, an incubator for creativity and a thriving hub for talent.

Created in 2008, Dubai Culture manages a group of the most important cultural assets in Dubai, such as Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, Al Shindagha Museum, Etihad Museum and Dubai Public Libraries. It has also launched a variety of innovative events, including Dubai Design Week, Dubai Art Season, Emirates Airline Festival of Literature and Sikka Art Festival.

The collaboration with Dubai Culture is one of many, as Expo 2020 draws on local, regional and international expertise to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime event for millions of visitors with the aim of building a long-lasting legacy beyond the event.

Expo 2020 Dubai will host a wide range of cultural and artistic programmes and initiatives, including the Visual Arts Programme and the Design and Crafts Programme, and has also commissioned the first Emirati opera, Al Wasl. These contemporary creations will bring together some of the best artists, designers and musicians from around the world to engage visitors and inspire them to explore new ideas and stories.

From 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021, Expo 2020 Dubai will welcome the world to celebrate creativity, innovation and culture. Its theme, ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, reflects Expo 2020’s vision for a better future for our planet.
