The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) has completed preliminary studies meant to implement a comprehensive investment project in areas adjacent to Al Karameh Dam.

The Ministry of Water and Irrigation in a statement on Monday said that the JVA has identified four spots of 3,600 dunums that can be optimised to construct tourist attractions.

The JVA has allocated two spots to establish two seafood restaurants, play areas, parking, small golf courses, agricultural nurseries as well as areas for water adventures outside the dam's pool, in addition to bicycle rental services, the statement added.

The third spot was designated as a fish breeding area, while the fourth spot was allocated to support these projects.

The ministry added that a desalination plant will be implemented on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis, noting that the dam will be supplied with additional water amounts to support the ventures and create an attractive investment climate.

The authority, in cooperation with the Ministry of Investment and the Public-Private Partnership Department, will prepare the project documents to be submitted to the private sector for investment purposes.

The contractual procedures are pending the Cabinet's approval, in accordance with the law on the development of the Jordan Valley in force, the statement added.

The preliminary studies included collecting water samples from the dam, checking the amounts of water stored in the dam throughout several years, besides conducting soil tests in the dam's surrounding areas.
