Muscat: Omantel, the leading provider of integrated telecommunication services in the Sultanate, reaffirms its commitment to offer value-added services.

With the introduction of 'eFloos' digital wallet, customers can make safe and swift payments, especially through the COVID-19 pandemic, where social distancing is required to stop the spread of the virus.

The digital wallet, which was launched in March 2019 in collaboration with Sohar International and Arab Financial Services (AFS) enabled over 12,000 users to perform transactions to India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Nepal, UK, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt and the Philippines through a mobile application without the need for a bank card.

As a pioneering technological innovation in financial transactions industry, the digital wallet 'eFloos' has been well received and widely used. Although it was initially confined to transactions among eFloos users only, the digital wallet currently enables its users to perform fund remittances with users of other digital wallets or banks in the Sultanate. Since launch, the number of users of the digital wallet 'eFloos' has been growing reaching 12,000 users now, while the number of registered trademarks accepting payment option through eFloos has reached 547 trademarks.

Commenting on this, Mohamed Al Hakmani, Omantel’s Senior Manager of Emerging Services – Consumer Business Unit, said, “We strive at Omantel to align our efforts and initiatives with Oman Vision 2040 through continuous investment in ICT infrastructure and solutions. Last year when we were planning to offer a fintech solution that offers users ease of cashless payment and remittances, we entered into a partnership with Sohar International, a leading bank in the Sultanate of Oman to launch eFloos in March 2019. We are proud of the customers’ response that saw the number of users growing to 12,000 now.”

Customers are reconsidering the cash they handle on daily transactions, contactless and digital payment methods are a safer alternative that offers more secure transactions and less physical interaction. The eFloos digital wallet witnessed continuous upgrades including improved application user interface and adding new features, countries and languages. Besides, we have broadened the scope of users benefiting from this application. All this is aimed at providing a seamless and safe payment experience for our customers,” Al Hakmani added.

Customers can credit funds to their accounts through more than 140 Omantel bill payment machines available across various governorates in the Sultanate or by using debit cards issued in Oman.
