KUWAIT, June 28 (KUNA) -- Director-General of Kuwait Ports Authority Sheikh Youssef Abdullah Al-Sabah said Sunday KPA has formally asked the competent authorities to allocate a site for launching an industrial port in the framework of the state's third layout.

Soon after allocation of the site, KPA would start planning, designing and then constructing the port, Sheikh Youssef told reporters this evening.

"The authority is keen on backing up the development projects and the initiatives to curb overreliance on oil revenues, increase domestic production, make better use of national industrial cadres and attract foreign direct investment," he pointed out.

On May 20, 2020, KPA and the Public Authority for Industry (PAI) signed a memorandum of understanding on laying the groundworks of an industrial port to the south of the country as part of the state restructuring layout.

The memo aims to play Kuwait among the ranks of the advanced country and enhance its industrial capabilities, PAI Director-General Abdulkarim Taqi said, noting that the memo has to be finally endorsed by boards of PAI and KPA. (end) ad.msa.gb
