King Abdullah Economic City: King Abdullah Port has been ranked the second fastest growing port in the world in 2018, according to Alphaliner, the global leader in analyzing maritime transport data, port capabilities and the future of vessels and shipping route development; King Abdullah Port was ranked eighth in 2017. Within the same ranking, King Abdullah Port is now ranked 83 in the list of the 100 largest container ports in the world in 2018 after ranking 87 in 2017.

Alphaliner stated that King Abdullah Port increased its throughput from 1.7 million TEU in 2017 to 2.3 million TEU in 2018; ranking second globally and first in the region in terms of container handling.

King Abdullah Port CEO Mr. Rayan Qutub expressed his pride in the Alphaliner ranking, commenting: “This success indicates that we are on the right track and it truly embodies the slogan ‘Sailing Toward the Vision’ which we launched during the port’s official inauguration by the Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense HRH Prince Mohammad bin Salman  during a ceremony celebrating our pride in this success, the national spirit, and the leadership’s efforts to advance the Saudi economy. King Abdullah Port is a testament to the success of public-private partnerships due to its connection to more than 17 government agencies while being fully managed and operated by the private sector.”

The port is added value to the Kingdom’s economy in terms of logistics support and attracting industrial and commercial investments. King Abdullah Port features a state-of-the-art infrastructure that includes the world’s deepest 18-m container berths. This is in addition to the largest and most advanced cranes in the world, which use the latest technologies and have a capacity of 65 t and 25 TEU; thereby enabling the port to offer services to massive vessels now and in the future.

Run by the Ports Development Company, King Abdullah Port is the region’s first port to be fully owned, developed, and operated by the private sector. It has been listed as the fastest growing container port and one of the world’s top 100 ports after less than four years of operation. Eight of the largest shipping lines operate at the port to offer integrated services to importers and exporters, and the port’s development plan is proceeding at a steady pace with a clear vision to become one of the world’s leading ports. Utilizing its advanced facilities and proximity to the assembly, re-export, and logistics services zones, the port offers its clients logistics support that can enable them to achieve their desired growth.
